Australia delays further opening online betting market

A government review of Australia’s online gambling laws called for holding off licensing of new sites until the country has adopted uniform rules to address problem gambling and consumer protection.  Federal authorities will work with state governments on aligning their laws, with an eye toward a national self-exclusion register and a requirement that players be able to preset betting limits.  Officials will also seek to develop stricter rules about lines of credit and marketing.  The government however rejected a recommendation in the report for trials of online poker and in-play sports betting.
