China to develop its own criteria for online gaming addiction in minors

Authorities from China’s ministries of culture and the Internet have called for researchers to develop China-specific criteria for the early diagnosis of online gaming addiction among young people.  A workplan created by 15 ministry-level authorities stated that using criteria relating to people from different social and cultural backgrounds might skew the findings.  According to statistics from the China Network Information Centre, China has around 330 million online gamers, with approximately 150 million of China’s Internet users being under the age of 19.
