Greens call for end of team sponsorships by betting companies

 

The Greens party is calling for a ban on the sponsorship of sports teams by gambling companies, a ban on all broadcast gambling ads before 9pm, a ban on all provision of odds during sport and sports-related programs and a ban on gambling ads “integrated into broadcasts”. The party may hold the balance of power if neither of Australia’s major parties wins a majority in next month’s election. The Greens argue restrictions on broadcast gambling advertising by Julia Gillard before her ousting as prime minister did not go far enough. “The number of betting ads on TV has quadrupled over the last two years,” said Senator Richard Di Natale,
