Greens Senator calls for inquiry into sports and gambling

Victorian Greens Senator Richard Di Natale, party spokesperson for gambling and sport, said that he will move for an inquiry into the promotion of gambling in sport.  The senator, who has worked in the treatment of drug and alcohol addiction and is a former football player, has expressed concern at the exposure to gambling odds that kids are becoming acclimatized to during games, and has said that steps need to be taken to “disentangle sport from gambling” to protect kids from becoming future problem gamblers. Senator Nick Xenophon, a long-time anti-gambling campaigner, also called for a temporary ban on sports betting.
