Packer touts Sri Lanka as next Macau in pitch for casino project

Crown Resorts Chairman James Packer has spoken of the tourism potential to Sri Lanka of approving new casinos in an effort to overcome opposition to his proposed Colombo project. Citing a McKinsey report, Packer said India’s middle-class could swell to 580 million by 2025, while about 50 million will travel overseas by 2020, compared to just 4 million in 2000. That spells huge potential for neighbouring Sri Lanka, he said. Packer was addressing the Commonwealth Business Forum on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
