Da Nang police raided a cafe and arrested 30 gamblers and seized 14 gambling machines and 26 million dong ($1,250). The cafe had been fined for operating four illegal gambling machines last year, but then bought more.
Ho Chi Minh City police meanwhile found a police colonel’s cap when they raided a gambling den. The police arrested 25, none of whom claimed the cap, and seized 8.7 million dong from the den, where people were playing the dice game xoc dia. The police monitored the den for a week, on a tip from neighbors, before moving in. It had been open since early April. They said gamblers received food, accommodation and loans at the den and had to pay 50,000 dong per round.
