Soccer official targets bet cap in draft bill

Le Hung Dung, deputy chairman of the Vietnam Football Federation, said a provision in the draft sports betting bill that would cap bets at 1 million dong ($48) was impractical  since “it is common for a bettor now to stake up to billions of dong on a bet with the illegal system”. He said the limits should be based on the competitions involved, with the World Cup and English Premier League cited as examples for higher limits. The legal system must be easy to use, he told Tuoi Tre newspaper, or gamblers would stick with illegal bookmakers.
