South Australia is to introduce new rules in an effort to reduce the number of video gambling machines and venues in the state. Maximum bets will be cut to A$5 ($5.20) from A$10. Under the new rules, venues can be licensed for either up to 60 machines or up to 20. The current limit is 40 machines. Those seeking the higher limit will be required to introduce automated risk monitoring and pre-commitment technology by 2017 and limit on-site daily ATM withdrawals to A$250. The smaller venues must stayed closed between 2am and 10am and get rid of automated coin machines and loyalty programs. Officials hope to take 800 of machines out of circulation with the measures and say a consolidation of venues will enable better monitoring. Adelaide Casino is expected to gain 200 machines during the consolidation.
