Sri Lanka opposition threatens to withdraw casino tax benefits

Sri Lankan United National Party legislator Harsha de Silva said the opposition would withdraw some of the tax breaks given to casinos if it comes to power. He said the government stands to lose out on about 120 billion rupees ($915 million) in potential tax income from planned new casino developments. Sri Lanka has cut gaming taxes to 5 percent, lifted value added taxes, and given a 10-year income tax holiday to one large casino, he aded.
