Three construction workers at the Galaxy Macau expansion construction site have died from a scaffolding collapse on Tuesday, local media reports.
According to the Labour Affairs Bureau, the accident occurred while seven construction workers were clearing debris in a lift shaft at 4pm on Tuesday, when suddenly the scaffolding collapsed, trapping the workers.
One of the workers was able to climb out of the lift shaft himself, with firefighters pulling out the six remaining workers. Three were sent to the hospital with minor injuries, the other three did not make it.
The Labour Affairs Bureau has sent its deepest condolences to the families of the dead, adding that the bureau would assist in arranging compensation packages and send staff to the site to carry out follow-up investigations.
It has also notified the project’s contractors to stop all work on the construction site.
