Local media reported that Crown Ltd. had acquired a site in Colombo to build a 36-story Crown Colombo hotel casino. The $350 million project would be constructed by 2016. Chairman James Packer has visited Sri Lanka twice in recent weeks and discussed with cabinet ministers the possibility of a Colombo hotel project. Parliament earlier this month passed new tax incentives for casino investment.
However, Australian sources say that no deal has been set. The company told Asia Gambling Brief, “Crown looks at numerous overseas opportunities as part of our international resort and entertainment operations.”
